Alliance Health Centers partners with Headwaters Counseling to ensure ongoing access to care

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Aug. 5, 2024 – Following the recent closure of Headwaters Counseling in Fort Wayne, Alliance Health Centers is stepping up to ensure patients have access to care.

“Here at Alliance, we recognize how crucial teamwork is to accomplishing our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve,” said Dr. Nikki King, CEO of Alliance Health Centers. “Headwaters provided high-quality care for vulnerable populations in southeast Fort Wayne, and it’s important that we maintain that access to care. We are honored to step into the next chapter as a team dedicated to maintaining and growing access to healthcare in Fort Wayne, regardless of a person’s ability to pay.”

Alliance is adding five providers – all of whom previously served at Headwaters – to support substance use treatment services, as well as mental health care for adults and children age five and older.   

The following providers are now accepting patients:

  • Raphilla Dixie, LCAC, PhD
  • Vanessa Jones, LMHC, CSAYC
  • Trevor McCorkle, LMHC-A
  • Sierra McDowell, MSW, LSW
  • Samantha Singhi, LMHC-A

Headwaters Counseling traces its origins to 1873, initially serving as The Home for Friendless Women and Homeless Girls. After undergoing several changes through the years, in 2012, it adopted the name Headwaters Counseling. Since 1873, Headwaters Counseling has had a long legacy of providing mental health services to residents of Fort Wayne.

"Learning about the Headwaters Counseling closing meant crisis for clients and staff,” said Kris Wise, LCSW, director of mental health, Alliance Health Centers. “Our community can't afford to lose providers in an already taxed mental health system. We are elated to partner with Headwaters to be part of the solution."

The providers are now accepting new or established patients from Headwaters Counseling at Alliance Health Centers in the Lafayette Medical Center, 2700 Lafayette St.; Alliance Health Centers in the Rescue Mission, 404 E Washington Blvd.; Alliance Health Centers in the Positive Resource Connection, 525 Oxford St.; and Alliance Health Centers at Bridge of Grace, 909 Elmrow Drive.
